Sherpani Rumba Child Carrier
The Sherpani Rumba is, in our opinion, the top of the line when it comes to kid carriers. It's large storage capacity (2,800 cubic inches compared to 1,100 cubic inches with the Deuter Kid Comfort II) combined with a max weight load of 70 pounds (20 pounds more than the Deuter Kid Comfort II) makes it one of the few packs that can carry your child and some gear. Parent Features: The Rumba's features are most like a true backcountry backpack meaning you can carry your load comfortably over long distances. The load lifters and tensioning straps are designed to be easily adjusted while you are wearing it. Even though it is one of the heavier child carriers, the weight load is evenly distributed so it doesn't feel heavier once it is on. The Rumba is the only baby carrier in the world featuring the fully adjustable "Backtrack OTF" suspension system which fits a torso range of 16"-22." (Sherpani claims you can make micro-adjustments this suspension system while you are wearing it, but I couldn't figure out how to do this by myself. Maybe if you're hiking with a partner?)
Child Features: Sherpani also paid attention to the comfort and safety of your child. The Rumba features an exclusive five point chest plate that prevents slouching and holds your child upright comfortably and securely with padded foam and five security straps. The height adjustable child seat is easy to use and raises or lowers for comfort and vision. Foot stirrups (removable) increase your child’s circulation and balance. And a sunshade topper ships with the Rumba - an essential for protection against the sun and low hanging brush or branches. It also has elastic toy loops to occupy your child for at least 15 minutes of your several hour trek.
Some argue that the size and weight of the Rumba limits its use to pure backcountry adventures and day hikes, however, I disagree. The day pack can be removed to save some weight, or instead of trying to haul home shopping bags, keep the day pack attached and put your loot in the backpack instead.
While all of the technical features of the Sherpani Rumba are great, I can't help but mention the one thing that takes the Rumba from Great to Fabulous. The colors, styling, and the cute floral print! (The Cayenne Red and Black kid carriers are favorites among Dads).
