This backpack style kid carrier from Deuter meets the demands of today's busy, multi-tasking parents. The Kanga Kid appears to be a regular, full capacity (four zippered compartments and plenty of mesh pockets) backpack with thick shoulder straps and a padded hipbelt, but in addition to all of the features of a high end backpack, the Kanga Kid unzips to accommodate a full child cockpit. This years Kanga Kid has been redesigned to decrease weight while adding an additional shove-it pocket for those loose items.
The child harness of the Kanga Kid is scaled down, meaning you can't carry as much weight (Deuter says it's great for kids up tp 45 pounds) for long periods of time, but this backpack is perfect for quick outings. Even though the Kanga Kid is capable of carrying 45 pounds of weight, after testing it out, we think it's great for kids 10-18 months that weigh considerably less. The main restriction is that the seat is not adjustable so it might not work for a baby that's too little or too tall.
We think it's ideal purpose is for travel, where you just don't have room for the big bulk of a traditional child carrier. The folded dimensions of the Kanga Kid are approximately 25" x 14" x 5" (compared to about 30" x 14 x 7 for most other light weight kid carriers) making it ideal to store inside luggage, under an airplane seat, or in an overhead bin. Everything you need to run down the jetway, or entertain baby on the airplane ride is within reach.
